International Symposium on Frontiers in Bioimaging will be held at the Institute of Atomic and Molecular Sciences (IAMS), Academia Sinica, Taipei, Taiwan on October 26 and 27, 2015. This symposium is part of the celebration of the 20th anniversary of IAMS. In the Symposium, we will have prestigious scientists and researchers presenting their recent work about investigating biology and medical sciences using novel imaging techniques. Topics include understanding structures and functions of biomolecules at the molecular scale by using cutting-edge electron microscopy and super-resolution optical microscopy, development and application of advanced labels and nanoprobes for imaging and sensing, revealing rapid dynamics in biosystems by high-speed three-dimensional optical microscopy, and also studying biomedical sciences by state-of-the-art MRI techniques. There will be a poster session on October 26, and we encourage you to submit an abstract of your research results. “Best Poster Award” will be attributed to the best posters presented. Poster submission and registration of the Symposium are free.

The multidisciplinary nature of science has made it important for researchers of many different backgrounds to meet and discuss research ideas. Building on the success of the previous workshop held on September 2 2014, we will hold the second IAMS-YCU Autumn Workshop on September 9, 2015. We will have graduate students from Department of Materials System Science (chemistry and physics) of Yokohama City University of Japan visit the Institute of Atomic and Molecular Sciences, Academia Sinica Taiwan to participate in this workshop. In this workshop we will have oral presentations by students and young researchers from both sides, as well as a poster session. With this interaction we hope to exchange research ideas and enrich collaborations. We take this opportunity to encourage interested researchers to participate in this workshop.

The call for an efficient and affordable renewable source of energy has never been more pronounce than it was a decade ago. Today, new advances in technology have driven us in search of better and sustainable sources of energy to fuel these new developments. In decades of research, it has come to an accepted consensus that there is no one source of renewable energy that can replace the current one and no specific type can provide all of our energy demands for the future. As such, this workshop on renewable energies tackles two of the promising energy sources—thermoelectrics and photovoltaics—that support a sustainable future.

Contemporary atomic and optical physics has been experiencing breathtaking renaissance due to the recent advances on unprecedented control of the atomic and light wavepackets. The advancements of optics on the one hand has led to temporal resolution of attosecond level and frequency resolution of 10-18 level, and on the other hand its light intensity has reached up to petawatt for high-field physics and down to that of single photon for quantum optics studies and quantum information applications. On atomic physics, laser cooling and atom trapping has led to creation of dilute atomic quantum fluids, noticeably Bose-Einstein condensates and degenerate Fermi gases with well controlled atomic interactions for investigation on many-body dynamics toward simulations of exotic quantum matter. In this symposium we will brings together renowned scholars in these exciting fields to report their recent researches. We hope this symposium can attract more researchers and students to participate in these fields, and can initiate more international collaboration between frontier researchers. The symposium will be held on July 8-10, 2015 with the first two days at Institute of Atomic and Molecular Sciences (IAMS) in Taipei and the last day at National Center for Theoretical Sciences (NCTS) in Hsinchu. It is organized by both institutes. The symposium in Taipei is also to celebrate the 20th anniversary of IAMS.

ACCMS was established in 2000 to nurture and promote research and development activities in computational materials in Asian countries. The first Asian Consortium on Computational Materials Science (ACCMS-1) was successfully held in Bangalore, India in 2001. Then, the meeting was held in Russia (Novosibirsk, ACCMS-2 2004), China (Beijing, ACCMS-3 2005), Korea (Seoul, ACCMS-4 2007), Vietnam (Hanoi, ACCMS-5 2009), Singapore (ACCMS-6 2011), and Thailand (Nakhon Ratchasima, ACCMS-7 2013). In the last ACCMS-7, more than 240 participants from 24 countries enjoyed academic discussions and nature circumstances in Thailand. ACCMS-8 will continue the tradition of ACCMS. In ACCMS-8, computational physicists, chemists and material scientists will gather to discuss important issues and to share essential progresses in various fields such as biotechnology, catalysis, spintronics, electron transport, thermoelectric effect, energy applications, and etc. We hope that you will take the opportunity to network with new acquaintances, and to build upon those relationships that have already been established. We look forward to welcoming our friends and colleagues from Asia, as well as other parts of the world.

此訓練營完全不同於其他團康性質的科普營隊，我們著重思考、動手、並找出科學真相。在此營隊中，我們會引導你熟悉儀器(研究級儀器)，交付你研究任務，但不會直接告訴你答案；我們希望模擬經由研究而發現真相的情境，讓學員體驗科學家在玩什麼。充分動腦與動手實做，在此營隊中是絕對必要的。此活動已辦了四屆，學生反應極佳(震撼、好玩…)。

This is a symposium hosted by the Institute of Atomic and Molecular Sciences to discuss the latest development in the following fields: “Advanced Materials and Surface Science”, “Atomic Physics and Optical Science”, “Biophysics and Bioanalytical Technology” and “Chemical Dynamics and Spectroscopy”.

With the increase in multidisciplinary nature of science, it has become important for researchers of many different backgrounds to meet and discuss research ideas. The Asian CORE Program brings together cutting edge researchers from Institute of Molecular Sciences (IMS) in Japan, Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST), Institute of Chemistry, Chinese Academy of Sciences (ICCAS), and Institute of Atomic and Molecular Sciences (IAMS), Academia Sinica in Taiwan. This year the Winter School of the Asian CORE Program will be held in IAMS located inside the campus of National Taiwan University in Taipei, Taiwan from February 24-26. In this winter school we intend to bring together students as well as researchers in the Asian countries who study molecular science. We will have a two and half day workshop covering basic, material and biological aspects of molecular science. In addition to the lectures given by the researchers we will hold a poster session and student oral session to encourage interaction between the growing young generations and the experts of molecular sciences in Asia. Synopsis Carbon-based nano-materials and devices have opened up opportunities for various applications. Recent developments in constructing nanostructures using carbon atoms and organic molecules enable us to create carbon-based nanoscale materials and novel devices with fundamentally new properties and unprecedented functions. Carbon-based nanotechnology is anticipated to dramatically change every aspect of our life. Reflecting the diverse and interdisciplinary nature of nanoscience, carbon-based nanoelectronics, nanophotonics, nanochemistry, nanobiology, and nanobiomedicine are the areas attracting wide attention. These areas not only represent novel and unique chemical strategies to make unprecedented functional carbon-based nanomaterials, but also represent wide-range applications of carbon-based nanodevices. Therefore, a full-scale international conference is timely justified not only for educating scientists and students but also for promoting the intellectual exchange of research ideas. This conference aims to provide a forum for researchers, scientists and engineers from different countries worldwide, who are actively involved in the research on nanoscience and nanotechnology, in particular on carbon-based nanomaterials and their device applications such as biological and chemical sensing, energy conversion and harvesting, electronic and photonic applications, catalysis, electrochemistry, and simulations, to disseminate their latest research results and development achievements. In addition to the exciting scientific and technological themes, the conference offers a platform to promote and encourage interaction among researchers for cross-fertilization of ideas and collaboration. The program will consist of a series of invited, contributed oral, and poster presentations. To enhance the interaction with poster presenters, they will also give a short introduction (3 min) to advertise their work. In addition, a panel discussion will be held to promote the interaction among scientists and researchers, including discussions on new research directions for carbon-based nano-materials and devices, summary of the current state of the art and future barriers, and projections of future frontiers.

Water is one of the most important substances of life, and accordingly there are infinite amount of detailed studies to understand the structure and dynamics of water. Many fundamental questions in physics, chemistry and biology are directly related to the chemical and physical properties of water. Due to the complex nature of the problem, numerous different experimental and theoretical methods are required for one to gain understanding on water. Furthermore, water study has a wide range from studies on gas phase water clusters and solid ice phases, to water on metal surfaces, to reactions occurring in aqueous and confined environments. Therefore in this Workshop, we aim to bring together water related researchers from different disciplines to initiate stimulating discussions.
